Tattoo Care
1. Plastic Wrap Method (Classic Aftercare)
Immediately after getting tattooed:
Your tattoo artist will clean the fresh tattoo and apply a thin layer of healing ointment (e.g. Bepanthen, Inkness Tattoo After Care, or TattooMed After Tattoo). Afterwards, the area will be covered with plastic wrap.
First hours:
-
Leave the wrap on for 2–4 hours.
-
Then carefully remove it and wash your hands thoroughly.
-
Clean the tattoo with lukewarm water and a pH-neutral, fragrance-free soap.
-
Gently pat dry (do not rub!).
Care over the next few days:
-
Only apply cream with freshly washed hands and on freshly cleaned skin!
-
Apply a thin layer of aftercare cream (Bepanthen, Inkness, or TattooMed) 2–3 times daily.
-
Do not apply thick layers — your skin needs to breathe.
-
Avoid sun exposure, swimming, and tight clothing until the skin is fully healed.
2. Dry-Loc Pad Method (Breathable Wound Dressing)
Directly after getting tattooed:
Your tattoo artist will place a Dry-Loc pad (a sterile, breathable wound dressing) over the tattooed area. These pads absorb excess fluid (plasma, ink) without sticking to the skin.
Care routine:
-
Leave the pad on for 4–6 hours, or overnight at most.
-
Then carefully remove it and clean the tattoo with lukewarm water.
-
Only apply cream with freshly washed hands and on freshly cleaned skin!
-
Afterwards, apply a thin layer of aftercare cream (Inkness Tattoo After Care, Bepanthen, TattooMed Aftercare).
-
Repeat the process 2–3 times daily for the next 7–10 days.
Advantage:
This method allows the skin to breathe and prevents heat buildup or excess moisture under the dressing.
3. Second Skin Film Method (Modern Protective Film)
Application:
After tattooing, a special Second Skin film (e.g. Suprasorb F, Dermalize Pro) is applied directly onto clean skin. It acts as a second skin, protecting the tattoo for up to 5 days from bacteria, dirt, and friction.
Care process:
-
Keep the first film on for 24 hours, then remove it carefully (preferably under lukewarm water) and, if needed, replace it with a new one.
-
You can wear the film for a total of 3–5 days.
-
During this time, no additional cream is needed.
-
After removing the film, gently clean the skin and only apply cream with freshly washed hands and on freshly cleaned skin, using TattooMed Aftercare, Inkness Tattoo After Care, or Bepanthen, until the skin is fully healed.
Advantages:
-
No wound fluid on clothing or bedding
-
Protection from friction and infection
-
Faster and more even healing
General Tips:
-
Never scratch or pick off scabs!
-
No tanning beds, saunas, or swimming for at least two weeks.
-
Sun protection: After healing, always use sunscreen (at least SPF 30).
-
Always: Only apply cream with freshly washed hands and on freshly cleaned skin!
